After yesterday afternoon’s willet extravaganza, I figured we wouldn’t have any luck seeing anything interesting at Slate Run today, but, to my pleasant surprise, we heard the sandhill cranes as soon as we got out of the car, and quickly spotted them foraging around the edge of a pond (additional photos in the comments).

I’m not sure how (or whether) their nest is faring, but the Canada geese were herding goslings in just about all of the ponds. We also saw a pair of yellowlegs fly by, as well as a pair of coots, a pair of wood ducks, and a pair of blue-winged teal. “You realize,” JMK says, “that this is Stage-3 Birding behavior.”

In all, a wonderful weekend, with today’s hike, yesterday’s trip to the museum and yet another little thing I could photograph on my hand.

Another rainy Saturday! It made for a good opportunity, though, to go see The Radical Camera at the Columbus Museum of Art, an exhibit of the New York Photo League’s work from 1936 – 1951. I’m very glad we went, although I can’t decide whether it made me want to get out and take more photos, or smash my camera — it was that good.

Later, after a seriously lazy spell, we went out to the Hoover Reservoir area, where we watched a bevy of swallows dip in and out of the water by the dam and over 100 resting willets occupy the far end of a boardwalk, past the popular fishing spots.

Today got off to a rough start, with thunder and lightning and hail and occasional torrential downpours; on the up-side, everything looks a little more atmospheric after a storm.

Sometimes, a cluttered desk can make you look productive. Other times…. Well, sadly, I think I’ve crossed the line into Crazy Paper Lady [tm] territory.

My knee has been bothering me all week, but we couldn’t let another weekend day go to waste, so we headed out to Denison University’s Biological Reserve area.

It was great to get out and, happily, I don’t feel any the worse for the wear — even though it would’ve been nice to be able to go a few more miles.

The steady threat of rain and my iffy knee kept us close to home today — a quick jaunt out to Glacier Ridge and Blendon Woods Metro Parks, and then back to our neighborhood to check out a new storefront: City Folk’s Farm Shop.
