After about 9 hours on the road today, I cannot stop yawning. Tomorrow’s portion should go more quickly, weather permitting, but, first: hours and hours and hours of sleep.

Mitsu is actually pretty fearless, but a couple of pretty close thunderclaps sent him scurrying.

It was all erranding today, after a quick litle hike to the overlook deck at Highbanks; there was nothing to see, though, with the trees all fully engulfed in leaves. Now, if only the cat will let me sleep late tomorrow….

It’s summery out there, and not raining, which, I guess, is just about right for Memorial Day weekend.

It’s always better to start summer with a clean sensor, that’s what my momma always said.

It was several short walks today, instead of a single big hike: first out to Alum Creek State Park, where we started down a trail but turned back when it became clear that we would have to contend with muddy, shin-high grasses the whole way — and when some bug bit my face.
Then, we headed for Gallant Woods, after taking a side trip down Hogback Road to spy on some osprey for a while, but were rebuffed by steadily massing mosquitoes in the woods. Still, we were able to startle a lovely pair of pheasants in a meadow, and catch a few of these tiny, insect-sized frogs as they leaped across the lawn to escape us.
